The Goals tab, which includes the Action Plan, will be the first page you see each time you access a customer's record. This page will help you facilitate goal-setting with your customer, as well as to map out the action steps needed to achieve that goal. Setting an action-driven goal early in the coaching process can help motivate your customer.
There are two ways you can view this page:
- Goal List View: A vertical list of your customer's Goals and their corresponding Actions. This is the default view for all Goals and Actions.
- Action Plan: A list of your customer's Actions that are organized in columns based on the current status of the Action.
You can change how the Goals are displayed by clicking the circular horizontal and vertical icons to the left of the + (Add Goal) button.
Add a Goal
- After opening an existing Contact or creating a new Contact, the COACH app opens to the Goals tab.
- Click the + sign icon and select Add Goal.
- In the Goal box, you are able to enter specific information about the customer's goal. The more specific you are, the more the goal will resonate with the customer and keep them motivated. The form includes the following fields:
- Personal Goal Category:
Select from the dropdown list of potential goal categories that best fit for your the Goal, such as Housing Purchase or Celebration. - Goal Name:
Enter the name of your customer's goal. Action-driven goals should be forward-thinking, strengths-based and passionately-held. Examples include, Vacation to Disneyland, and New set of tires for the car. - Term:
Select whether the goal is a Long Term or Short Term Goal.
Tip: Together with your customer, decide whether the goal is something that can be achieved in the near future, such as paying off a utility bill, or something more long term, like purchasing a home. - Description:
Enter a description of the goal. Make it as detailed and exciting as possible to keep your customer engaged in completing the corresponding action steps. - Status:
Select In-Progress to denote that your customer is actively working on this goal or Completed if they have achieved the Goal.
- Personal Goal Category:
- Click Save to save this Goal.
Add Actions to a Goal
Add Actions to a Goal to give a customer defined tasks to accomplish to work towards their completed Goal.
- Click Add Action to open the Action panel.
- Select any Action(s) that will assist your customer in achieving their Goal. You can select multiple Actions to add to a Goal at once.
- Click Save Actions after you have selected the Action(s) you want to add to your Goal.
Edit a Goal
After a Goal has been added to a customer record, you can edit the Goal information and the Actions associated with this Goal.
- Click the three vertical dots at the top right of your Goal and select Edit.
- You can edit all of the information about your including the Name, Description, Due Date, etc.
- Click Save to update these change to your Goal.
Edit an Action
As your customer works through the Actions in a Goal, you can update the status and add notes to them. COACH has predefined Actions that can be added to any Goal and

- Click the three horizontal dots at the far right of your Action and select Edit.
- On the Notes screen, you and edit the following information:
- Status Options:
- On Deck: This is the default status of every added action. This means an Action has not yet been started.
- Doing: This Action is currently in progress.
- Next Check-In: This Action will be addressed in the next Meeting with your customer.
- Completed: This Action has been completed.
- Action Due Date: Add a Due Date for your Action.
- Notes: Add any notes to your Action that are relevant to your customer and this Action.
- Status Options:
- Some Actions have attached Tools (worksheets) that can be views and/or saved to share with your customers.
- Click Save to save the changes to an Action.
Delete an Action
- Click the three horizontal dots at the far right of your Action and select Delete.
- Click OK in your browser popup to confirm that you want to delete this Action.
- You will see a green banner that confirms that your Action has been successfully deleted.
Add a Trail
Trails are predefined Goals with attached Actions that are created by COACH Administrators. To create Trails, view our Help Article: Creating Custom Actions and Trails.
- After opening an existing Contact or creating a new Contact, the COACH app opens to the Goals tab.
- Click the + sign icon and select Add Trail.
- You will see the Trails panel open and if your System Administrator has added custom Trails, you can select a Trail from the panel.
- Select your Trail and click Save.
- After a Trail has been added, all Actions associated with that will be added as well.
- If there are any Actions added that you do not need, you can delete the Action from the Trail using the instructions above: Delete an Action.
Delete a Goal or Trail
If you no longer need a Goal or a Trail added to a Customer record, you can delete the entire Goal or Trail (along with the added Actions).
- Click the three horizontal dots at the far right of your Goal or Action and select Delete.
- Click OK in your browser popup to confirm that you want to delete this Action.
- You will see a green banner that confirms that your Action has been successfully deleted.
